THE
ART & DESIGN
DEPARTMENT

About the Department:
The first phase of Arts College status has brought about great changes for the Art & Design Department. The extra funding has enabled us to completely refurbish the art rooms to a very high standard. The refurbishment has added a new storeroom, photographic darkroom, a new pottery kiln, a computer room and library and a revamped gallery space. The crowning glory of the building works has been the conversion of an old redundant space on the sixth floor to a brand new high tech, three level art studio.

During our first two years we have introduced new activities into the department Including, after school classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Artists in residence have given every student a chance to work with an art professional. The curriculum has been enhanced increasing opportunities for students to take extra GCSEs in art subjects. In the lower school we have been able to give more time to art lessons in all years. These changes have enabled some students to do their GCSEs early in Year 10. These students have now gone on to complete AS level exams in Year 11. We have also increased the overall number of students entered for art exams. Once again these GCSE results achieved over 90% for A*-C grades.
