THE
BUSINESS STUDIES
DEPARTMENT

What We Teach:
Business Studies is offered as a GCSE Option in Years 10 and 11. This course provides students with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding that they will need in the workplace or in further education or training. It allows students to experience vocationally-related learning to enable them to decide if it is suitable for them. It is an ideal qualification for those candidates who want a broad background in business.

Examples of appropriate employment to which a GCSE in Applied Business (Double Award) student might progress include customer service assistant, office assistant, sales operative, administration officer.

In order to understand the nature of business, students must actively experience the business environment. This can be achieved through a variety of approaches including work experience, links with local employers, case studies, research and in practical application via such schemes as Young Enterprise.
