THE
CAREERS
DEPARTMENT

About the Department:
The Careers curriculum is responsible for increasing the awareness of the world of work and training. It forms part of the citizenship learning experience. Careers lessons are taught by tutors - as part of PSHE and Citizenship - at both KS3 and KS4. Careers is also taught by our Connexions-Futures advisor. Students are expected to leave both key stages with a clear awareness of access into work, training and further education. The School has a careers library and dedicated careers interview suite.

Key Stage 3
Careers at Key Stage 3 is a growing area. Careers modules will be taught in all
Years as part of the Citizenship and PSHE programmes of study. In addition to this, the Connexions-Futures careers advisor provides supporting guidance as well as some interviews. The School computer network and School Library boasts careers software such as Kudos to help students develop career pathways as well as recognize their own strengths, weaknesses and interests. A number of careers related activities take place in Year 9. These include Take our Children to Work Day and Construction Challenge.

Key Stage 4
Careers related activity is intensified with more focused activity leading to post–16 progression.
Students are interviewed in Year 10 and 11. They also receive further support and guidance from Connexions-Futures as well as Tower Hamlets College and other local institutions to ensure a smooth progression into work, training or further education. All students participate in a wide range of careers activities culminating in a Work Experience placement for two weeks. These include the Getting Ahead Conference and  Head to Head  Interviews. The School works closely with the Tower Hamlets Education and Business Partnership to provide these activities and others.
