MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT
FRENCH

What We Teach:
French is taught from Years 7-11. The emphasis is on communicative language learning and the text book Equipe enables students to envisage themselves as the tourist / penpal in France or another French-speaking country.

The topics are based on everyday themes so that students learn to understand and give out information on a variety of useful themes, e.g. shopping, personal information, directions, daily routine, etc.

French at Key Stage 4:
At KS4, students have the opportunity to build on their work of the previous three years. All students study the AQA GCSE French full course and have the option of higher or higher or foundation level in each of the four language skills:

  • reading

  • writing

  • listening

  • speaking

Department Achievements:
The department organises regular visits to French-speaking areas. These include:

  • Day trips to Boulogne

  • Residential trips to Paris

Facilities:

  • Use of a French Assistant, working twelve hours a week
