THE
MUSIC
DEPARTMENT

About the Department:
Music has a specialist area with two classrooms and four individual practice rooms for solo and group work. All students have one Music lesson every week in Years 7 to 9, learning about a variety of styles of music. Activities include singing, playing percussion instruments and keyboards, listening to music and composing (with voices, instruments and ICT). At KS4, students can opt for a course in Applied GCSE Performing Arts run by Music Department staff.

Music and Instrumental Lessons:
There are many opportunities for students to get involved in extra-curricular musical activities, such as lunchtime keyboard clubs or practice sessions, and school concerts and productions. Specialist tuition is available in singing (both Asian and Western styles), piano and keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and drums. It may also be possible to arrange individual or small group lessons on orchestral instruments. Students also have the chance to use Music Technology, including sequencing using a computer.

We have several successful bands within the School, who perform regularly. KS4 students are often involved in projects in the community, such as the Spitalfields Festival, Croydon Festival and the Stratford and East London Music Festival. St. Paul's Way Community School believes that students must be given every opportunity to show their talents outside the classroom, and the Music Department offers many opportunities for this to happen.
