What
We Teach:
Spanish is taught from Years 7-11. The emphasis is on communicative
language learning. At KS3, students use the textbook, Listos,
where language is introduced in a cultural context through a group of
young people living in Spain. The textbooks for KS4 are Captado 1
and 2, which cover the various topics specified for the GCSE course
through a storyline that follows the lives and relationships of a group of
Spanish-speaking characters.
The
topics are based on everyday situations so that students can understand and
provide information on a variety of useful themes, e.g. personal information,
daily routine, directions, holidays, etc.
Spanish
at Key Stage 4:
At KS4, students have the opportunity to build on their work of
their previous three years. All students study the AQA GCSE Spanish full course
and have the option of higher or foundation level in each of the
four language skills:

speaking

The department organises regular visits to Spanish-speaking areas.
