What Does a School
Governor Do?
School Governors are representatives of the various bodies who have an
interest in the School - Local Authority, staff, parents, etc. As a
group, they are responsible for the School’s management, its standards,
the way it deals with students and staff, its relationship with the
wider community, certain financial matters, and so on. Governors are
responsible for broad matters of policy. Detailed implementation is
carried out by the teachers and other professionals. What Governors do,
how they are appointed, and various other aspects of their work are
covered by legislation.
