A Message from the
Headteacher |
|
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I am delighted to be writing to you as the new Headteacher of
St. Paul's Way, and look forward to meeting with you as the term
unfolds. It is a great privilege to take on the role, not least
at a time when the School continues to improve its exam results
and its standing both locally and nationally. Like me, I am sure
that you are proud to be associated with the School.
It is a particularly important time to be taking up the post,
with Year 9 students poised to take their SATs starting on
Tuesday 6th May, and with the bulk of the GCSE exams set to
begin later this month. I know that staff have worked incredibly
hard to prepare students for these important exams, and I am
sure that we can continue to rely on your support, to ensure
that your child does their very best in the exams. Even at this
late stage, time set aside at home for revision and preparation
is vital and I hope that you will give your child all the
encouragement possible to focus on their studies, so that they
achieve all of which they are capable. It is also quite a
stressful time for students, and we must all remain mindful of
that.
With GCSE results at their highest ever level last year, I look
forward to reporting a continued improvement this year: results
which will be a credit to you, your children and the staff at
St. Paul's Way.
On the next page, I have produced a list of events taking place
over the course of this term, and I look forward to meeting with
as many of you as possible. I am committed to building strong
links with families so that, working in partnership, we can
provide the best possible education and opportunities for your
children.

Uniform |
|
May I please remind you that
students must come to School each day in full uniform. I would
be grateful if you would check that your child is setting out
from home each morning with their uniform and all that they need
for that day's studies. Also, personal stereos and mobile
'phones are not allowed in School at all and will be
confiscated, only to be collected, at a later date, by a parent
or guardian. I am also already building up a steady stack of
baseball caps! These are not part of the uniform and will
continue to be confiscated.
Please contact the School Office
if you would like a list of the uniform.

Spring Holiday
STUDY SUPPORT |
|
As is usual at this time of year,
the School lays on extra provision for Years 11 and 9 in the form
of revision and study support classes. During the Spring term
holidays some 100 students chose to attend lessons at St. Paul's
Way. These were in Physical Education, Music, Maths, Science and
Geography. Many students commented that these lessons were both
valuable and worthwhile.
I am sure you will wish to join me in
thanking Mr. Jacobs, who co-ordinated these events, and to those teachers
and other staff who helped ensure that the study support programme ran
smoothly and successfully.

Absence |
|
Attendance continues to improve, and parents are reminded to
'phone the School when their children are away. This will avoid
you being phoned automatically on every day of an absence.
Thanks.

Geography Field
Trip
Overstrand, Norfolk |
|
Year
11 GCSE Geography groups spent a rewarding and enjoyable three
days during the Easter Holiday in Overstrand, near Cromer, in
the county of Norfolk. There they extended and enriched their
geographical knowledge and understanding. Students undertook
work on topics such as fragile wetland management at the Norfolk
Broads; looked at engineering themes on coastal defences; and
developed studies into the impact of tourism in Norfolk.
The Overstrand Centre staff
commented on the very good behaviour of the St Paul's Way
Community School students, and how much they are looking forward
to next year's trip (Year 11-2004). These students were a credit
to the School, and to their parents and communities. |
