Dear Parents/Guardians,
Firstly, I would like to thank you
for your patience over the last week or so, as I have been
forced to close School on several occasions due to major faults
in our fire alarm system. These are now fixed, and I am
confident that the system is working well.
However, during the disruption
caused by the repeated false alarms and closures of last week, a
small number of students cut one of the wires running from one
of the fire alarm alert points. This would not cause the alarm
to sound: such errors just come up as faults.
The students who did this act of
great foolishness were caught on camera and I have asked the
Police to arrest and prosecute them. In addition, I intend to
look to their families to pay for the substantial cost of
repairs. Once I have viewed all the evidence, I am likely to be
looking at excluding those students too.
All students and their parents
need to know that any criminal damage to the fire alarm system
puts us all at risk - but that cutting wires won't lead to a
fire alarm, let alone the closure of the School. However, it is
an act of criminal damage and I will insist that the Police
arrest and prosecute students involved, and that their families
will be asked to pay for the damage.
I am confident that with your help
and additional vigilance, term will finish peacefully and
productively and we can put the disruption of the last two weeks
behind us.
I look forward to writing to you
again with the last Newsletter of this academic year.
With best wishes,
Simon Harris
