A Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that you had a good break. I write to you with immense pride in the achievements of students at St. Paul's Way Community School, and with great enthusiasm for the new School year. Year 11 students produced the best results the School has ever seen, giving us a figure of 58% of students who achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade C or above. For very many others, performance in the summer exams outstripped the predictions that had been made. That outstanding performance has made us the fourth highest achieving secondary school in Tower Hamlets at GCSE, and puts us less than 2% behind the national average. Congratulations to those students who have shown that, with hard work and commitment, the opportunities exist at St. Paul's Way Community School to soar. I look forward to hearing about the further success of our former Year 11 students as they begin their studies at colleges and Sixth Forms. They have really set the standard for our new Year 11 students.

Students returned this week to a school with brand new toilet facilities. The first phase of a quarter of a million pounds' building programme has been completed and existing student toilets have been totally modernised. Additional toilets will join these new, state-of-the-art facilities as they are finished over the next two months.

By the end of this month, every classroom in the School will have been equipped with an interactive whiteboard. This revolutionary technology combines the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer. The boards connect to a PC and a digital projector. Computer programs can be controlled directly from the display, the Internet can be accessed and displayed and work saved to share later. Students can be far more involved in their learning and research has shown that the use of these boards can help them progress faster.

Best news of all is that we are very hopeful that a Tower Hamlets bid to the Government will be successful and that this will result in an entire rebuild of St. Paul's Way Community School. Sadly, we won't hear for sure until March of next year, but I am confident that our students will soon get the building they deserve.

Numbers in Year 7 are up this year, as news of the successes of students travels around the borough. I really do believe this is a wonderful time to be a staff member, a student or a parent at St. Paul's Way Community School.

I look forward, as always, to welcoming you to the School in the very near future.

With best wishes,

Simon Harris
