A Message from the
Headteacher |
|
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I trust this Newsletter finds you
well. As I write, Year 9 students have just finished their SATs
and Year 11 students will commence study leave on 20th May, with
GCSE/GNVQ exams starting on the 23rd. Staff have worked
incredibly hard to prepare students for these important exams,
and I am sure we can rely on your support, to ensure that
children do their best in the exams. Even at this late stage,
time set aside at home for revision and preparation is vital.
Please encourage your child to revise and focus on their
studies. It is also a stressful time for students, and we must
all remain mindful of that.
Local Police are concerned about
street violence in the borough. To tackle this problem, they
intend to make increasing use of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders
(ASBOs). I have agreed to work closely with the Police and will,
in future, pass on the names of any St. Paul's Way students
involved in serious fighting in or around School. Please
continue to support us by reminding your children about the
danger and stupidity of fighting. That said, it is delightful to
record that behaviour in and around the School has shown signs
of real improvement and I thank you for your support in this
matter.
Finally, with GCSE results at
their highest ever level last year, I look forward to even
higher results this year, which will be a credit to the
children, parents and the staff of St. Paul's Way. I am also
confident of improvements in this year's Key Stage 3 SATs
results.
With very best wishes,
Simon Harris

The Modern Foreign
Languages Department's
FRENCH TRIP 2005 |
|

From March 14th-18th 2005,
forty students and five teachers visited Paris and nearby places
of interest. The Modern Foreign Languages trip, organised by Ms.
Lakehal, was designed to give students a French experience and
provide them with an opportunity to practice their French
speaking and listening skills.
We were blessed with wonderful
weather which added to the enjoyment of our stay at the Chateau,
just east of Paris. We ventured into central Paris, and were
elevated to the second stage of the Eiffel Tower, cruised the
river Seine, visited Notre Dame and enjoyed Disneyland.
A visit to the delightful French
town of Brie, where we celebrated Ms. Lakehal's birthday, was
followed by a trip to a French market in Pontault Combault,
where the students got to talk to local people in French.
It was a memorable trip for all
involved, enjoyed by students and staff alike. Merci beaucoup,
Ms Lakehal!

TEXTILES ON PUBLIC DISPLAY |
|
Year 10
Textiles have been asked by The City of London Festival
organisers to design a hanging textile for the opening ceremony
of this year’s event. Four schools are taking part; SPWCS,
Central Foundation, Skinners and Islington Media and Arts. Each
school is looking at a different area of the City.
The class spent
a cold morning drawing and photographing Liverpool Street
Station. Dan Wheale and Anna Ferry, textile designers, from
Cloth of Gold are working with year 10 to develop their ideas
into a screenprinted hanging.
The students
will be using specialised computer aided design programmes to
manipulate their original ideas, a fantastic opportunity for all
of us. The banner will be 2m long and put on public display at
the station. The opening ceremony is on the 24th June at noon.
We hope lots of parents will come and support their children and
the school by watching the parade. The banner will be returned
to school and placed on permanent display.

Mobile Phone
Thefts |
|
The local police are very
concerned about the increase in mobile telephone thefts/loss
from schoolchildren. They advise that students register their
IMEI number (which is the serial number) and write it down along
with their home address and mobile number. This will allow the
Police to then put this information on a database and use that
to track the rightful owner if they stop anyone in possession of
a mobile. Therefore, I advise you to ensure that your child does
this and registers this information with the Police. The IMEI
number can be found by dialing *#06# on their mobile. Please do
remember that students are not allowed to have mobile phones in
School and that any phone discovered will be confiscated and
only later returned to a parent. |

Netball League
On
Tuesday 12th April, the girls had their last matches at Morpeth
School. The junior team came 3rd out of 8 teams, which is
fantastic. They will go on to play against the best teams from
Hackney on 12th May. The senior team did well to get into the
league, which is better than other schools achieved. They came a
respectable 5th. All girls enjoyed the competition and were a
credit to the school.

Science Revision on the Web!
The Science Department has a website address sheet that you
could use for GCSE revision. Some of the websites are even fun!
Ms. Bolsolver
