A Message from the
Headteacher |
|
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope that this Newsletter finds
you well. It is amazing that we are already at the end of the
first half term of this academic year. Also, during the month of
Ramadan, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all those
observing it a happy and peaceful month. In any event, enjoy the
half-term break.
Our new Year 7s are proving to be
delightful, a credit to themselves, their parents and their
primary schools. Elsewhere, we have seen a calm and purposeful
start to the new academic year, with students serious about
their studies. I feel very confident in looking forward to
another highly successful year at St. Paul's Way Community
School.
Please may I remind you - as we
have reminded students - that fireworks are a terrible danger to
children, with 972 people injured last year, 504 of whom were
under 16. Most injuries took in back gardens or streets with 141
children sustaining eye injuries, whilst 104 were burned by
sparklers. Bringing fireworks into School puts us all at great
danger, and will be dealt with very seriously.
As always, I look forward to
welcoming you into the School soon.
With very best wishes,
Simon Harris

Year 11
Photography Trip |
|
As
part of their GCSE coursework, a group of students from Option 1
Photography took a trip to Canary Wharf. Students took digital
images around Canary Wharf, trying to create dramatic
photographs of the buildings by concentrating on composition,
shapes, patterns, angles, scale and depth.
The digital photographs collected are to be used within a new
project on buildings. The group worked well within their time
limits, taking plenty of very impressive photographs. Students
will be manipulating the images on computers in School
Photography lessons using Adobe Photoshop.
I would like to commend the
students who participated in the trip for their excellent
behaviour and their ‘photographic eye’! I would also like to
thank Ms. Rolfe and Mr. Simons for taking part.

school on 020-7987 1883 (Extension 123) and ask to speak to
someone about "The Code of Conduct". The current Code is printed
below for your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you.

Design a Postcard
Competition |
|
The English Department is planning
to produce postcards that readers can use to recommend books to
other readers. We are looking for a range of designs or pictures
that suggest any of the following ideas: (a) spreading the word
about good books, (b) a reading ‘web’ or (c) reading for
pleasure. Pictures and designs should be postcard size, or be
suitable for reducing to this size on a photocopier.
Alternatively, you can write a short poem to suit the above
theme that could be used instead of a picture.
The competition is open to all
Year groups and prizes will be awarded to the winners. All
entries should be your own original work and be given to Ms.
Damms (A108) by the deadline of October 20th 2005. |

Special Mentions
Maruf Hassan Chowdhury, Year 11, has been signed up by
Middlesex County Cricket Club. He is now a member of their
Academy side - a superb achievement: Academy players are
expected to go on and play for Middlesex 2nd XI and then the
full county team. Every member of the Ashes winning England Test
side was an Academy player for their respective county, so watch
this space. Maruf could be the next Andrew Flintoff!
Emran Hussain, Year 9, is
now officially ranked in his age group as the top table tennis
player in Essex and the 14th best in England. An amazing
achievement, richly deserved. He has an outstanding attitude to
table tennis. Mr Williams
Well done Lubna and
Audri in 7T2 for their excellent behaviour and attitude
towards work. They have more than 10 merits already!
