Duke
of Edinburgh Bronze Award:
This is a nationally recognised award that represents students'
commitment, determination and good teamwork. It is very valuable for
students to obtain and will help them in the future when applying for
colleges, universities or employment. Students are able to work towards
the award during their Year 10 at St. Paul's Way. The
award is split into four sections: Skill, Practical, Service
and Expedition:
-
For
the Skill section, students learn how to do, or pursue an
interest in a valuable skill such as music, drama or photography.
-
The
Practical section is completed through students joining the
various sports clubs within School.
-
For the Service section, students
have to carry out twelve hours of work within the community, at
youth centres, city farms, religious organisations and primary
schools, for example. They can also help to coach younger pupils in
School through working with members of the PE staff in sports clubs.
-
Students
are assessed for the Expedition section during a week in Wales
in February/March. They have to work in groups to complete a fifteen
mile walk over two days with an overnight camp. The group does a
practice and an assessed expedition during their week to complete
the expedition section.

Twelve committed and reliable pupils are
selected each year to do the Award. The 2006/2007 Year 10 group are
already working towards their Award and are expected to pass in Summer
2007.
