HSBC OUTWARD BOUND PROJECT
HSBC in Canary Wharf are running a project for five schools within a two-mile radius of their headquarters to give students a chance to experience exciting activities in challenging outdoor environments. St. Paul’s Way Community School has been very lucky to have been chosen as one of these schools.

We have teamed up with the Outward Bound Trust and use their centres in Wales and the Lake District, where qualified instructors take groups of students to do these activities.

The aim of the project is to give students the chance to experience activities such as kayaking, rock-climbing, caving, rafting and orienteering, and to build up their ability to work with other students as part of a team.

Each year, 30 students are selected from Year 9 to take part. They all undertake a four-day course in the Lee Valley in September, and twenty students are selected from this group to go to Wales for a 7-day course in March. The project is wholly funded by HSBC, so there is no cost to the students involved. Two students from this group are then selected to go to the Lake District in August to do a flagship three-week course, which is focused on them doing self-led expeditions in addition to some other activities.
